I severely doubt any teenager even uses this word to mean flirting. The one word out of the entire books that I thought was out-of-place was “macking”. Language- books that involve teenage characters, I look for realistic dialogues. Sometimes the mean girl gets what she wants, even though it makes the rest of us sick.

I was kind of hopping Kirsten wouldn’t win but that would be a bit cliché and too much of a happy ending. Side thought: I though that Asha and Sam were together when she playfully grabbed his backpack. And the disgusting comment made by Lowell to suck a limp pencil tip ( paraphrasing). Kirsten saying she smells curry while she walks past Asha, who happens to be of Indian descent. The dialogue between characters seemed realistic in the sense that these are what teenagers would say to each other when they want to be cruel.

Even though I couldn’t relate to Chelsea I still enjoyed seeing her world from her point of view. Chelsea doesn’t learn from her mistakes after 40 pages, it takes her the whole book for her to stop shifting the blame to others, and on to herself because she did play a pivotal role in Noah’s assault and eventually his defense. I liked the pacing of character developement. I loved that Chelsea isn’t a one-dimensional character who is just here to tell a story of how her big mouth got someone else into trouble she has dreams and hobbies (sewing and fashion). Chelsea seemed like such a shallow person during the most inappropriate times for example after spilling the beans about Noah she describes a cute black-haired boy standing behind Noah as he exits the party after being outed. Well, I commend the author for not taking the sympathetic route and making their MC seem like they were completely innocent, but instead made the MC intolerable and unlikable.
